Jay Ponazecki is the Chairman of The American Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ACCJ) and served as the ACCJ President in 2014 and 2015. Until December 2015, Jay was a partner at Morrison & Foerster’s Tokyo Office specializing in cross-border transactions including tender offers, privatizations, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and strategic alliances. Jay also assisted financial sector firms and asset management companies with their portfolio investments, regulatory compliance, commercial arrangements and investor and operational issues. Jay graduated from Columbia University (Barnard College) and NYU Law School and was an AFS high school exchange student to Japan. She grew up in New York City and Northern New Jersey. Over the past 6.5 years, she has helped lead more than 30 Hands On Tokyo (HOT) volunteer groups to Tohoku. She began volunteering with HOT soon after the 2011 earthquake and tsunami because she wanted to help the disaster response and recovery. Doing something was better than doing nothing. Jay is an optimist and avid long distance walker and has walked 1,000s of kilometers in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Spain and Portugal. Jay always enjoyed hiking with her parents and found that these walking holidays in beautiful places were a perfect and healthy contrast to all the hours she spent working indoors. These walking holidays have led to her belief that we often create the best solutions and the most innovative approaches when we step away from a problem or obstacle. In all aspects of her life, she has always focused on getting to yes.
