Sanae Kishimoto, Master of Human Sciences and Master of Public Health double-major holder is a Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) Trained Teacher as well as a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) teacher in training through UC San Diego Mindfulness-Based Professional Training Institute. She has also completed the certificate program in Mindfulness and Psychotherapy at the Institute for Meditation and Psychotherapy (IMP) that was founded by clinical psychologists at Harvard University. She is currently doing outcome research for mindfulness and self-compassion at Kyoto University School of Public Health as a Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) candidate while teaching MBSR and MSC at Waseda University. In addition, she is co-teaching MSC 2-day core skills training at Keio University School of Medicine this spring. She is the founder of Mindful CARE Japan along with advisors who are clinical psychologists at Harvard University as well as the founder of MSC Chris Germer, PhD, and President of IMP, Susan Pollak, EdD.
Her lifelong passion for quality of patient family-centered interdisciplinary care is incorporated in her Japanese license as a clinical psychologist, educational and professional background.
She is a traumatic brain injury (TBI) survivor whose deep, painful, and ongoing journey for recovery has been aided by mindfulness and self-compassion. TBI specialists at Harvard Univeristy encouraged her to continue to meditate for brain recovery throughout and she continues to benefit from their advice and this practice to this day.
Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) training is an empirically-supported program designed to cultivate self-compassion using meditation, daily life practices, lecture, group exercises and discussion. This workshop will introduce self-compassion, and provide some examples of MSC program from Christopher Germer, PhD, the author of The Mindful Path to Self-Compassion – Freeing Yourself from Destructive Thoughts and Emotions as well as Kristin Neff, Ph.D, the author of Self-Compassion. Sanae trusts that wisdom and compassion are interconnected as two wings and mindful self-compassion gives us inner strength, flexibility and deeper insights which she hopes to share with you.
Her next training session, 2-day Mindful Self-Compassion Core Skills Training (fully booked) takes place at Keio University School of Medicine from April 15th, 2017.
As a Find Your Element Leader, Sanae will deliver a 90-minute Workshop on “Softening Your Inner Critic with Self-Compassion” on April 12th, 2017. This workshop will aim to:
◆ Help understand the science of self-compassion
◆ Teach simple self-compassion and mindfulness informal practices for daily life
◆ Motivate yourself with kindness rather than criticism
◆ Teach you how to meet yourself with a loving connected presence
The Workshop includes talks, experiential exercises, a brief meditation, and Q&A. No previous experience with mindfulness or meditation is required to attend this workshop.
