A beloved friend once told me that his favorite phrase from last year was “Mind Your Own Business”. I loved that. It created freedom, love and a more relaxed and powerful approach to life. Did it mean that he didn’t care for or want to see his fabulous, fun and dramatic friends anymore? No. Did it mean that he cut them off and stopped loving them? No. Did it mean that he stopped listening? No. He just didn’t get into their business. He created boundaries around how far he would get involved in other people’s business.
We spend a lot of time worrying about what other people think of us. It’s a tragic waste of energy, time and emotional resources. We also spend a great deal of time deciding what other people think, what they should think and where they fall short. We analyse, dissect and search for meaning in things that people say and do, and make it mean something about us and them.
Having healthy and compassionate boundaries and respecting other people’s boundaries can open our world to more healthy and enriching relationships. It can also mean that some relationships change, especially with ourselves. We tend to become addicted to behaviours, and when we are addicted to something, it can feel strange, dangerous and painful to let them go. But we have to push through the craving — the craving for not minding our own business.
How would things be if we just directed that energy into knowing ourselves, loving ourselves? How we judge others, we also judge ourselves.
“Happiness is reality minus expectation”. ~Linda Singh
This workshop will help you to:
- Recognise where you are getting outside of your business
- Notice when this has happened and the result
- Acknowledge the benefits of getting into other people’s business
- Understand where we are not creating good boundaries for ourselves and where we are crossing into other people’s business
- Feel where we have cravings associated with addictive behaviours and think about how we can feel the feelings and be OK with that
- Focus on being deeply loving to ourselves and clearly stating what we want and don’t want
